Class: Algebra 1: High School Algebra Credit
Course-length: Year
Course Track: Weekly
Teacher: Wendy Young
Class Fee: No Fee
Class Limit: Not open for additional Spring Registrations.
Grades: 8th-9th
Description:
Students will need to bring textbook, notebook paper and calculator to class each time. This class will cover high school Algebra 1. Some students are ready for Algebra 1 in the 8th grade, but only if they have completed a Pre-Algebra course; 7th grade Math is not Pre-Algebra.

Supplies:
While there is no fee to the class, you will still need to purchase the following materials by the first day of class:
- A graphing calculator (TI-84 plus or higher is recommended if you plan to complete Algebra 2 and higher Maths.). If you are not sure about your calculator, bring it on the first day of class and Wendy will let you know if it will work for Algebra 1.
- (Required) Elementary Algebra textbook by Harold Jacobs, from W.H. Freeman and Company for 8th-10th grade
- (Suggested) Elementary Algebra – Solutions Manual by Harold Jacobs & Cassidy Cash from AskDrCallahan for 8th-10th grade.
Calculator: If your student plans on taking Algebra 2 and/or a higher Math and then move on to college Math, the TI-84 Plus is the oldest calculator you should purchase. If you can, purchase the TI-Nspire CX or CX CAS Handheld as they will grow with your students through high school and college. Older graphing calculators will work, but may not grow with the students into Algebra 2 and Pre-Cal. Wendy will have a set of Nspire Color to use in class if needed, but the students will need their own calculator for use at home.
